Project summary
During this project I was part of a design team as the sole UX researcher / conceptor. I worked with front-end developers and visual designers. I had an advising role regarding visual design.
The museum Boijmans van Beuningen was going to be renovated and wanted to stay relevant during this renovation (visitors were unable to enter the museum physically). My team and I created the concept BaRoK. Users have to find artworks throughout the city of Rotterdam and will discover (hidden) hotspots.
Role
Solo UX Researcher / conceptor
Duration
2 months
The Problem
Museum van Boijmans will be unable to receive physical visitors during the renovation, but wants to stay relevant during this time in a new (digital) space.
Goals
An important business goal is, attracting a new target group namely: the cosmopolite was chosen. This group of people loves exploring new things (Wanderlust). A big focus point of this project.
A project goal is learning about the cosmopolites values, and relevant trends. This can be used to facilitate touchpoints where the users will interact with.
Design Process
BaRoK
BaRoK is a (conceptual) platform that would be available on multiple devices. Users can scan QR codes on artworks (hidden) throughout the city. BaRoK can be used to find, and scan artworks. These artworks will guide users towards (hidden) hotspots, responding to the users want to explore.
Results
The result is a new way for Boijmans Van Beuningen Museum to stay relevant during renovation, they can also implement BaRoK on the long term to keep attracting these cosmopolites. The Boijmans Van Beuningen experience has now stretched out of the physical space, this could lead to potential new visitors of the museum after the renovation (business goal).
